“There comin’ in the dark at night………….”!
Damn right! – they also seem to be coming in large chunks from DFA at the moment – simply pumpin’ one great debut release out after the other!
Someone give their A&R man and Label Manager at great hug - “Mr. Ambassador – you are positively spoiling us!”.
Michoacan – or better known as – Fernando Miranda Rios to his mum – provides an awesome debut release for DFA in the shape of – “In The Dark At Night”- after having released stuff for Grayhound, Headinghome, Lektroluvv, Smash Hit Music Co., Speak Recordings, Bearfunk and Tiny Sticks.
The slow-burning, acoustic-ridden original of this is the aural equivalent of an 18 wheel Desert Train running you over in steady mid-tempo, funki’fied, space’y fashion complete with Space-Boogie spelled in large capital letters.
Flip the beast over and Italy’s – Clap Rules – deconstructs the track entirely by structuring a HUGE wah wah driven, Disco-splattered monster of a remix, which wouldn’t find itself out of place in an episode of “Starsky & Hutch”.
With plenty of 8 Bit action coupled with glossy keys, Funk oozing from every pore and a phat bassline to hold onto this is exactly the kind of stuff you wanna dance naked to while eye-ing up a blind Doberman!
Large – very!
’ll make this one short and sweet, and I’m just about to head out of town for the weekend. But I’ll leave you folks with this terrific new Michoacan track remixed my the Italian trio Clap Rules. I’ve written on the stellar work that Clap Rules have put out in the past, but this remix is one of their best efforts to date. The minimal drum and synth beat puts the Clap Rules stamp of authenticity on “In The Dark of The Night”, but the vocals from the A side make this remix the complete disco package. Keep your eyes pealed for a new 12″ from Clap Rules later this year, and be sure to hit the DFA store for a pre-order of this great single.
Pre-Order: Michoacan – “In The Dark of The Night” out March 30th on DFA
